When NFL free agency officially begins with the start of the new league year at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 9, it will come after days of speculation and rumors about each player's landing spot.

A legal tampering period, introduced in 2013, allows teams a three-day period of reaching out to players to express interest and "submit a negotiating position," although no contract offer can officially be made. This led to some controversy during the 2015 offseason and an investigation into the Miami Dolphins' pursuit of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, but the league found that the team didn't break any rules.

For some players, like former Los Angeles Rams defensive end Chris Long and New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, free agency began immediately after being released. But for players with expiring contracts, they aren't officially on the market until the new league year ticks the last day off their contract.

The tampering period has created more whispers and rumors leading up to the beginning of free agency and then an explosion of news when teams can officially sign players. We'll be keeping track of all the whispering here.

For the free agent signings, we're keeping tabs on the top 100 free agents on the market. From the rumor mill:

The Eagles are reportedly making a "real push" to sign Sam Bradford to a new contract ahead of the tag deadline March 1.

Free agent linebacker James Laurinaitis is scheduled to meet with the Saints, according to ESPN Adam Schefter. The team has shown interest since his release from the Rams.

It's a risky move, but Washington is reportedly leaning toward using the transition tag on quarterback Kirk Cousins, per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

The Colts are expected to move on from 40-year-old backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, per Mike Silver of NFL Media. Josh Freeman will back up Andrew Luck next season.

The Eagles have reportedly upped their offer to keep quarterback Sam Bradford, who's a free agent this year. If they can't retain Bradford, former Chiefs backup Chase Daniel, who Doug Pederson coached in Kansas City, could be an option.

Free agent cornerback Antonio Cromartie is expected to visit with the Bills, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. Rex Ryan is apparently intrigued by the possibility of a reunion.

The Bills are planning to franchise tackle Cordy Glenn if the two sides don't sign a long-term deal by Tuesday's deadline. The franchise tag for tackles this year is $13.7 million.

The Broncos and Von Miller are reportedly unlikely to agree to a long-term deal by Tuesday, in which case the star linebacker would almost certainly be franchised.

The Saints may be interested in picking up linebacker James Laurinaitis, who was released by the Rams last week. Laurinaitis, 29, started every single game in seven seasons with the Rams.

The Eagles are listening to offers for disgruntled running back DeMarco Murray, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Cutting him outright won't be easy for the Eagles considering if would leave them with $13 million in dead cap space. Then again, the size of his contract won't make it an easier to trade him.

Josh Norman's reps met with the Panthers at the NFL Combine on Thursday night. There was no deal, but the talks were seen as a sign of progress between the two sides. He could also get the franchise tag.
